Why?
At Søre, our work is built on a small number of core values that guide everything we do.
Integrity means making ethical choices, building long-term partnerships, and delivering on every commitment we make.
We believe in community and connection, during and beyond our expeditions. Participants and team members are part of a wide Søre community that continues after the experience.
We see resilience as something built together. Through controlled physical challenges in nature, we bring people just outside their comfort zone, guided by an experienced team from Belgian Defence, healthcare, and the climbing world.
We deliberately work with professionals trained in high-responsibility environments. This ensures safe, structured, and grounded guidance at all times.
Respect and open communication define how we work—within the team, with participants, and in the field. They allow us to face challenges together and grow as individuals and as a group.
Who?
Founders and headguiding
Mike
For eight years, he served in the Belgian military as a reconnaissance infantry soldier, taking part in various deployments and developing a wide range of skills and experiences.
After leaving the military, he continued his path in service by becoming a nurse, where he discovered a strong connection with both emergency care and mental healthcare. Along the way, he realised that the lessons learned in the military and healthcare worlds could come together to create meaningful experiences for civilians seeking challenge, growth, and connection.
Several years of guiding-experience in the Balkan region became one of the foundations for Søre Expeditions, where he got inspired to bring these different worlds together through outdoor experiences.
Outside of his work, he has been passionate about climbing for over ten years. He feels most connected when surrounded by nature, facing a little discomfort, and discovering what lies beyond his own limits.
Sander
The core values that guide his life are movement, nature, growth, and connection.
As a child and young adult, he sought physical challenges through sport. Over time, he realised that more kilometres or higher mountains matter less than what happens in the mind. What happens when your feet are tired, yet there is still a long way to go?
On a mountain, your job, success, or status don't matter. What matters is who you are, how you deal with discomfort, and how you respond when things become difficult.
Nature, a strong group, and physical challenge have taught him some of his greatest lessons.
His own search for personal growth led him to study sport and exercise, NLP, and Intermittent Living, serve in the military, and invest in books, courses, and coaching. Today, he helps people become more resilient and self-aware through physical challenges, breathwork, cold exposure, and walking coaching.
If your paths cross, he looks forward to sharing that experience with you.
