Albanian Highlands Basic week 1 (7 may-14 may 2027)

Sale Price: €2,083.00 Original Price: €2,450.00

The expedition

Over 6 days, you move through remote mountain terrain in northern Albania, close to the borders with Kosovo and Montenegro. Guided by an experienced crew, you will navigate challenging terrain, operate as a team and learn practical field skills in the environment itself.

This is a non-supported expedition. You carry what you need, individually and as a team, and learn to operate autonomously while managing your resources, energy and decisions collectively. Our crew remains responsible for route planning, risk management and access to local emergency support.

Requirements

This expedition requires a good level of physical fitness and the ability to hike consecutive days with a loaded pack. Previous experience with multi-day hiking, camping or trekking is strongly recommended. You should be comfortable with variable weather, challenging terrain and limited access to conventional facilities.

You do not need to be an expert. You do need to be prepared to learn, contribute and take responsibility.

Core skills

Throughout the expedition, you will develop practical skills in:

  • Survival & fieldcraft — military-derived principles adapted for civilian expedition use

  • Mountain movement — navigation, route selection, pacing and difficult terrain

  • Wilderness First Aid — assessment, field treatment and evacuation decision-making

  • Cold exposure & breathing — controlled exposure and managing acute discomfort

  • Group dynamics — communication, leadership and decision-making under pressure

  • Wild food foraging — guided by a local expert with knowledge of the region

Program

Day of Arrival/Day Zero: Logistics, briefing and dinner provided

Day 1-6: On route (4 days food on field and 2 days with locals)

Day 6 evening: Closing night with BBQ

Day 7: Day of departure, transport to Tirana Airport

Route

The average length of the route will be around 70 kilometers. The focus of the expedition is not the distance. We focus more on our workshops along the way to create more situational awareness.

Simulated training

We strongly believe in learning by experience and simulation. During the expedition different kind of scenario’s will be integrated to enhance training effects.

Local knowledge

We work closely with an experienced local mountain ranger who knows the region, terrain and communities in depth. His local knowledge supports our route planning and provides access to a regional emergency network if required.

Along the route, you will encounter local communities and experience northern Albania beyond the usual tourist routes.

Pack for four seasons, essentials only.

Your booking is protected against insolvency. In the event of financial failure of the tour operator, the statutory insolvency protection provides for a refund, continuation of the trip or, if necessary, repatriation.
